This sort of property rarely comes onto the market, traditionally being handed down through the generations within the original aristocratic family. Reminiscent of a bygone age of landed gentry, this old stone manor house would be equally at home in France or Italy and yet is very typically Corfiot. The estate still produces its own wine, olive oil and vegetables, whilst also offering landscaped gardens and a swimming pool.

Dating from the 18th century, the main house has been converted and renovated to a very high standard. Consisting of four bedrooms, two bathrooms and a library on the first floor, this was the original living accommodation, whilst the ground floor, originally storage and olive press, now provides a summer and winter living room/dining room with fireplace. The ground floor is paved with local flagstones and opens onto a large verandah with built-in seating and the walled garden.

At the time of the renovation, a new wing was constructed, designed to blend with the original buildings by a well known Athenian architect. This wing joins the main house to some smaller outbuildings which now house a laundry, storeroom and small staff flat. The new wing houses a large open plan kitchen/dining/living room with vaulted ceiling. There is a gallery above which acts as a library and two bedrooms and two bathrooms.

The original olive press - a long low building independent from the main house - is at least a century older and was restored in the 1990's. Additional windows have been incorporated into the building to allow light to brighten what was a cool, dark interior. Huge stone arches dominate the large open plan living space which also includes two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a laundry area. Central heating has also been installed. Outside there is a pergola-covered dining area, and a covered verandah running along the entire length of the building.

Additional land, purchased in 2000, extends the estate to the south and includes two ruined stone cottages for potential further development.

There is a tennis court and exceptional gardens designed by the present owner who is a past president of the Mediterranean Garden Society. The well-kept vegetable garden produces throughout the year and the citrus orchard provides large quantities of oranges and lemons. The olive harvest - not all the trees are farmed - provides good quality oil and table olives for the family and friends. The grapes are of the local variety called Kakotrygi and produce a demi-sec white wine.

The gardens have featured in several English language magazines and books.

The house is on the outskirts of the hill village of Gastouri, famed for the palace built by Empress Elizabeth of Austria (Sissy) and the sea is very much part of the views from the Manor, being just a five minute drive away.
